HSLC Executive Director Position Announcement

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Executive Director

Part-time – 20 hours

Human Services Leadership Council


The Human Services Leadership Council of Central New York’s mission is to improve the lives of the recipients of human services in central New York by facilitating growth in skills, knowledge, capacity and coordinated efforts of the not-for-profit human services agencies who serve them.

The Executive Director, under the guidance of the Steering Committee of HSLC, is responsible for overall operation of HSLC with ultimate approval of all fiscal, program, and employment decisions, functions, changes, policies and procedures.

Responsibilities include:  

Planning:
  • In conjunction with the HSLC Steering Committee, monitor implementation of the Strategic Plan.
  • Identify local training opportunities for HSLC members, with focus on strengthening organizational capacity.
  • Resource development: enhance access to data sets and contact people to facilitate collaborative joint activities and applications.
  • Plan for and attend all HSLC general and Steering Committee meetings and supply members with all information necessary for the execution of their duties. 
Execution:
  • Serve as liaison to be voice and representative of HSLC members. Connect with industry sectors such as business, government, funders and community members.
  • Foster collaboration and regionalization by identifying opportunities, facilitating connections and sharing successful models used across the country.
  • Make recommendations to and implement decisions of the Steering Committee for all HSLC programming, funding, and operations.
Process:
  • Work closely with Steering Committee to ensure delivery of accurate, consistent and effective messages to members.
  • Research and make recommendations on replicable blue print models of collaboration used across the country.
  • Represent HSLC to the community to promote understanding and supportive relationships.
  • Serve as advocate to promote HSLC efforts locally, statewide, and nationally.
  • Oversee networking initiatives to include increasing and maintaining active email presence and enhancements to HSLC website functionality.
Budgetary:
  • Administer HSLC annual budget and supervise any future fund raising efforts and  financial plans and operations.
Systems:
  • Authorize the hiring, direction, management and termination of administrative staff employed by HSLC.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with government agencies, area businesses, funding sources, member programs, and other human service agencies.
  • Abide by a strict code of confidentiality in all matters related to the HSLC and its members.


Qualifications:
Individual should have  experience in human service administration; demonstrated management experience including supervision of staff, budget, finance and fund development; awareness of and interest in the Central New York region human service providers and businesses; high level of initiative and creativity; proven ability to be an effective manager and leader; ability to handle a variety of tasks and responsibilities simultaneously and effectively; ability to work with diverse groups of people with diplomacy and discretion; ability to assume leadership in planning and programming for all areas of HSLC.

Job Posting - Director of Development

                                              JOB POSTING
                                     DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
                         LEGAL SERVICES OF CENTRAL NEW YORK

Legal Services of Central New York (LSCNY) (www.lscny.org) seeks a
Director of Development. The Director will be responsible for planning, organizing,
coordinating, and implementing a fundraising program to support operations,
programs, and purposes of the Justice Alliance of Central New York (JACNY), a
cooperative venture of LSCNY and the Legal Aid Society of Mid New York
(LASMNY)(www.lasmny.org).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Director of Development designs and implements a comprehensive
program to raise funds, including major gifts, annual giving, foundation and
corporate grants, planned gifts, endowments and special events and campaigns,
focused on attracting increasing private support from the community, individuals,
corporations, law firms, and foundations to meet the resource needs of the Justice
Alliance and to build/expand stakeholder constituency. The Director of Development
coordinates development efforts, including necessary external relations activities,
with appropriate committees of the Board of Directors.

                   The Director of Development reports to the LSCNY Executive Director and
                   consults with the LASMNY Executive Director.
                   The Director of Development is responsible for:


-Raising money through the comprehensive planning, organization,
coordination, and implementation of a successful private fundraising program;
- Assessing current fund raising activity and redesign/implement revisions
based on that assessment;
-Identifying, defining and developing objectives for private support and
action plans for increasing resources available, to include grants, annual
membership campaign, direct mail, major gifts, corporate appeals, endowments,
special events and planned giving;
-Establishing and monitoring a system to record and provide regular status
reports on gifts and fundraising activity, including a development database to
facilitate forecasts, prospect analysis, donor research and segmenting donors and
ensure appropriate recognition of all donors and volunteers;

-Developing and maintaining an Office of Development, working
collaboratively with staff and Board to interact with donors, business and
community leaders, private foundation officers and the media;
-Designing and implementing a public relations and marketing plan,
including website improvements, solicitation materials, newsletters, press releases,
and other appropriate activities.
- Recruiting, training, and supervising any development staff, interns
and/or volunteers that work for the Development Department;
- Facilitating Board and committee participation in fundraising activities;
-Researching and identifying new sources of foundation and corporate
support; preparing grant proposals; following up with funding sources on proposal
submissions;
- Producing solicitation materials for fund raising; and
- Conducting such other duties as may be necessary to accomplish the
Development goals.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher.
-A minimum of three years experience in the fundraising field, with
demonstrated success in fundraising, donor cultivation, and solicitation.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, and familiarity with public
relations, marketing, and external relations.
- Skill in motivating others, including volunteers, prospective donors, Board
members, and development leadership.
-Strong organizational and analytical skills, outstanding interpersonal
 skills, and demonstrated experience in managing people and budgets.
- Computer literacy and familiarity with fundraising software.
- Skill in exercising initiative and independent judgment, as well as
handling a large number of activities simultaneously.
